Itemized Deductions
When can this form be used?
You may use this form if you have paid real estate taxes on your primary residence, paid state or local taxes, gave donations to charity, paid more than 7.5% of your total income in medical expenses. You must have paid more than the Standard Deduction for your filing status to claim Schedule A.
Can I do anything if I don't have enough expenses to file Schedule A Itemized Deduction?
Everyone is given the Standard Deduction. If the filer(s) can prove more expenses than the standard deduction, they may file form Schedule A. Otherwise the Standard Deduction is granted to all filer(s).

What is the Standard Deduction for tax year 2024?
The 2024 standard deduction is $14,600 for single filers and those married filing separately, $29,200 for those married filing jointly, and $21,900 for heads of household.
